North Carolina author Margaret Dunbar Cutright will read from and sign copies of her book A Case for Solomon: Bobby Dunbar and the Kidnapping that Haunted a Nation. First told on NPR’s This American Life, A Case for Solomon incorporates family and archival research to tell a gripping drama of family and childhood, class and power. In 1912, four-year-old Bobby Dunbar went missing in the Louisiana swamps. Eight months later, he was found in the company of a wandering piano-tuner who was arrested and tried for kidnapping. When Julia Anderson, a poor single mother, claimed the boy as her own son, the case exploded. Who did he belong to? Dunbar Cutright, a descendant of the boy who grew up as Bobby Dunbar, began to dig into the family legend to find out.
